A chef was killed alongside his two children, four and nine, in a horror crash with a HGV, with his pregnant wife being the only passenger in the car to survive, an inquest heard.

How did the crash happened?

Alomgir Hussain, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene after the car he was driving collided with the lorry in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

His nine-year-old son was also pronounced dead by paramedics shortly after the smash took place on Watling Street in Burbage at around 4.30pm on September 8.

West Midlands and East Midlands Ambulance Services rushed to the scene alongside police officers and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

Mr Hussain’s four-year-old daughter was rushed away with medics but later died in hospital.

His wife survived but but was left win a critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the HGV was treated at the scene.

He was given self-care advice and subsequently discharged by paramedics.

Inquiries into their deaths

The inquest, presided over by coroner Professor Catherine Mason, only focused on Mr Hussain’s death.

A cause of death was not given during the short hearing.

In the wake of the crash, a fund-raiser set up to raise money for the charity Sadaqah Jariyah was created.

The initiative aims to build water pumps and wells around the world. It has so far raised more than £20,000.

Inquiries into the collision are ongoing. Professor Mason adjourned the inquest to a later date, pending further investigations.
