A teacher accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old student and sending n*des to other children on Snapchat had been married for just 58 days.
Cassidy Kraus, 24, was forced to resign from her job with IKM-Manning Schools in Iowa on August 25 after the school board confirmed they were investigating alleged misconduct by the teacher.
She was reported to bosses after a parent claimed she sent illicit materials to their child. The teacher was just married to her husband on July 1, when he filed for divorce on August 28 following the allegations.
Karus was arrested last week and charged with two counts of lascivious acts with a child, three counts of dissemination of obscene material to a minor, and, third-degree sexual abuse. If found guilty, she could face up to 33 years in jail.
One of the charges alleges that Kraus “perform[ed] sex acts with a person 14 years of age” and was alleged to have “fondled or touched” the genitals of multiple children. She’s also accused of “disseminating [ed] obscene material” to a student in 2022 and two more in 2023.
The local middle school, which employed Kraus as a reading teacher, said she attended school in the same district allegedly plea where she taught and allegedly committed the crimes. Her first appearance in court was on Thursday. She has yet to enter a pleas.
It comes after a social worker charged with sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy allegedly went to the child’s home with a gun and threatened to kill his mum.
Payton Shires, 24, from Ohio, allegedly admitted to the disturbing behaviour on October 6 during a call with the boy’s mum and cops. And just hours later at around 5.30pm, Shires turned up to the teen’s home with a gun. His mum, who was away then, discovered the woman on the porch via her doorbell camera.
Officers were called to the home and found Shires sitting with a gun pointed at her head and with a finger on the trigger. She yelled that she was going to kill herself, according to court records. The boy’s mum informed cops that Shires called her and told her that she wanted to take her own life because she and her son had ruined her life.
The boy’s mum called the police on September 27 to report suspicions of the social worker allegedly abusing her position after discovering several text messages between her son and Shires.
Investigators allegedly discovered a video of the boy and Shires engaging in sexual contact.
The suspect was charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, along with intimidation of a crime victim and intimidation of a crime witness.
