Underbelly star, Firass Dirani, has slammed Australians who support Israel, claiming they are “supporting apartheid”.
The Australian actor shared a video on social media expressing his support for Hamas after the Palestinian militant group carried out a horrific attack in the Jewish homeland on Saturday.
Dirani complained that Hamas – which is considered a terrorist group by the Australian government – is being ‘propagandized against them as if they were a militant terrorist group’.
He also compared the plight of Ukraine – which was invaded by Russia in February 2022 – to the Hamas cause, suggesting that recent attacks that have killed hundreds of civilians were ‘Palestinians resisting the oppressors’.
The clip sparked outrage with viewers slamming Diran’s comments as ‘demonic’ and calling him out for blocking followers who challenged his stance.
“Seeing some people posting in support of the Israeli flag and in a way that Hamas has been propagandized against as if it were a militant terrorist group,” said Dirani, who has 63,000 followers.
“Not long ago, the Ukrainian people were armed and fighting against Russia, and they were called heroes and people who were resisting, resisting the oppressors, and now when the Palestinians are resisting the oppressors, which has been going on for 75 years, they are labeled something else.
“They are labeled as terrorists or militants, savages. They have every right to defend themselves, and to those who are supporting Israel, those who put up the Israeli flag, you are supporting apartheid, you are supporting apartheid, period.”
