A three-year-old girl drowned in the bath after being found unconscious by her parents, an inquest has heard.

Iris-Mae Aubrey was found ‘unresponsive’ in a partially-filled bath at her home in Abertillery, Gwent in Wales, the hearing was told.

Police and ambulance workers arrived shortly before 9pm on September 29th 2023, but the toddler could not be saved.

Her loss

The ‘beloved daughter’ leaves behind little brother Oliver and her parents, Ryan and Chelsea.

Well-wishers have donated £10,314 on a GoFundMe page set up by family friends to give Iris-Mae ‘the send off she deserves’.

Family friend Ayesha Powell said: ‘On the 26th September 2023, Ryan and Chelsea faced the most horrific and difficult situation any parents could face, when their precious three-year-old daughter passed away.

‘Iris-Mae was a beautiful, clever, funny, little girl who is going to be missed dearly by all those who knew her.

‘Iris-Mae’s parents, little brother Oliver, who she was the best big sister to, and the rest of her family, have all had their lives changed forever.

Donations

‘As friends of Ryan and Chelsea we would like to try and raise as much money as possible, to support them at this incredibly difficult time.

‘All donations will go towards giving Iris-Mae the send off she deserves, and to take any financial stress off her parents, allowing them time to grieve their beloved daughter.’

In a statement, Ryan and Chelsea told friends: ‘Thank you for all your generous donations and support, we are totally lost for words and I don’t think any words could say how appreciative we are of everyone.’

The hearing at Gwent Coroner’s Court was adjourned for investigations to take place with a provisional date for a further hearing listed in May next year.
