Britney Spears has made the heartbreaking revelation that she had taken Prozac and Adderall as a teenager due to being ‘out of her mind with grief’ over the Justin Timberlake split, the death of her aunt, and later losing custody of her children.
More revelations
The 41-year-old pop megastar has been in focus as of late as he has made several revelations including having an abortion at 19, finally admitted to cheating on Justin, and why she shaved her head in 2007 in her soon-to-be released explosive memoir The Woman In Me.
Now the New York Times has published many more bombshells from the book on Thursday including the shocking revelation that she was put on medication as a teenager to deal with the ills of life in the spotlight.
Dating Justin at 16
Britney began dating NSYNC member Justin, now 42, while touring with the boyband when she was 16-years-old and their relationship was heavily in the spotlight.
She wrote in her memoir that she ‘couldn’t help but notice’ that chat shows would ask her different types of questions than what would be asked of Timberlake as whether or not she got breast implants was a major topic of conversation.
According to the New York Times she wrote in the book: ‘Everyone kept making strange comments about my breast, wanting to know whether or not I’d had plastic surgery.’
What made her go into drug
A few years later, Spears famously went out with early 2000s party girls including Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan but insisted that she ‘never had a drinking problem’ nor an interest in hard drugs but described her ‘drug of choice’ as ADHD medication Adderall.
Britney wrote that being on the medication ‘made me high, yes, but what I found far more appealing was that it gave me a few hours of feeling less depressed.’
Her moments of meltdown
In 2007, the pop megastar had some of her most well known public meltdowns including shaving her head and attacking a paparazzo’s car and explained in the memoir that she was ‘out of my mind with grief’ following the death of her aunt and a custody battle over her two sons with ex Kevin Federline.
She said: ‘With my head shaved, everyone was scared of me, even my mom.
‘Flailing those weeks without my children, I lost it, over and over again. I didn’t even really know how to take care of myself.’
Britney gave an even more intimate look into her life at the time as she continued: ‘I am willing to admit that in the throes of severe postpartum depression, abandonment by my husband, the torture of being separated from my two babies, the death of my adored aunt Sandra, and the constant drumbeat of pressure from paparazzi, I’d begin to think in some ways like a child.’
