Massive manhunt is launched AFTER ‘dangerous’ 31-year-old criminal escapes custody at local hospital

A murder suspect has fled from a hospital in Washington DC and a large-scale police investigation has been launched.

Christopher Hayes, 31, escaped from custody at George Washington Hospital in the 900 block of 23rd street at around 3.30pm on Wednesday.

His body features

He has been described as a 6ft tall black male with shoulder-length dreadlocks and was wearing a black t-shirt, grey shorts and a white body suit.

Hayes, who was arrested and charged with homicide on the day he escaped, is currently not in handcuffs and the public has been warned not to engage with him.

A helicopter was seen circling the area and large sections near the hospital have been cordoned off.

An alert was sent out to ask people to be on the lookout for the escaped criminal and to call 911 if they spot him.

’31-year-old Christopher Haynes escaped custody at GW Hospital in 900 block of 23rd St NW at 3:38 pm,’ it read.

‘He is described as a black male with shoulder-length dreadlocks, wearing a white suit with one red shoe. He is not handcuffed.

‘Do not engage, call 911 if spotted.’

Authorities shared a picture of Haynes and described him as 6ft tall, weighing approximately 205 pounds and with black hair and brown eyes.

He was wearing a black t-shirt, grey shorts and a white body suit when he was last spotted.

The search ramps up

George Washington University’s campus is under shelter as police continue to search for the escaped criminal.

Its student alert system asked members of the campus to keep safe ‘due to the dangerous individual around campus’.

Images from the scene show a heavy police presence with dozens of officers patrolling the area.

Several areas near the hospital have been cordoned off in pursuit of the escaped prisoner.

Some cops are searching on foot while others are riding around in patrol cars or on bicycles.

There was a helicopter circling the Foggy Bottom neighborhood.
