The devastated family of a ‘beautiful’ nine-year-old girl who was killed by a car while crossing a road have paid tribute.

Alice Williams was on a pedestrian crossing in Halifax, West Yorkshire when she was tragically struck by a black Vauxhall Corsa.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the fatal collision on July 8 at 11am, but later died in hospital after sustaining critical injuries.

A 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving but was released on bail.

A family spokesperson said Alice was a ‘bright, loving and beautiful girl, who brought her family and friends joy every day.

In a tribute, Alice’s headteacher, Jenna Walker, at St Mary’s Catholic Primary Academy also released a statement.

Ms Walker said: ‘Alice was a genuinely lovely little girl. She was someone who was gentle, kindhearted, and full of smiles.

‘Her loss has left a huge hole in our school and our community, and we will continue to remember and honour her life. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.’

West Yorkshire Police detectives are appealing for anyone with information regarding the incident, who hasn’t yet spoken to police, to come forward.

The collision happened shortly after 11am on King Cross Street near to the junction with Park Road and involved a black Vauxhall Corsa.

Detective urge in particular, anyone who was travelling away from Halifax in the opposite direction or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.
