‘I will never believe Lucy Letby is guilty’: Childhood friend INSISTS nurse is innocent

  • Despite ten months of damning evidence against Letby in one of Britain’s longest ever trials, her schoolfriend Dawn Howe refuses to accept her guilt

A childhood friend of Lucy Letby has insisted she still stands by the killer – as a video emerged of them on a ‘night of terror’ six years before the nurse started murdering newborn babies.

Letby, 33, is Britain’s most prolific child killer and was Tuesday sentenced to an unprecedented 14 whole life orders – meaning she will die in prison.

A judge said she displayed ‘malevolence bordering on sadism’ following a ‘cruel, calculated and cynical campaign of child murder’.

But despite ten months of damning evidence against Letby in one of Britain’s longest ever trials, her schoolfriend Dawn Howe refuses to accept her guilt.

Ms Howe has insisted: ‘Unless Lucy turned around and said I’m guilty I will never believe that she’s guilty.’

She is still tagged in two videos on social media of a 2009 drunken night out with Letby and friends that is named the ‘Night of Terror’.

The footage was captured on September 3, 2009. Six years later, on September 7, 2015, Letby tried to murder a baby girl who was born weighing barely more than 1lb.

The baby girl’s family were celebrating her 100th day of life when the nurse tried to kill her.

Letby tried again to murder the tiny girl days later by forcing air and milk into her system.

Jurors were unable to reach a verdict at a third attempt on the same girl’s life.

It shows the killer nurse holding up Dawn as they stagger down the street.

In the footage obtained exclusively by MailOnline, the pair claim they are drunk as they go around town knocking on people’s doors.

Ms Howe is one of several people who had offered their support to Letby throughout the trial.

Janet Cox, an ex-colleague, is believed to have attended multiple times alongside Letby’s parents.

Photographs posted of when they were teenagers, which have still not been taken down despite Letby’s horrific crimes, also show Ms Howe and her close friend Letby enjoying life in Hereford, where both grew up.
