Elon Musk has confirmed a new URL is available to for users to access Twitter.
The world’s second richest man is proposing yet more changes to the popular platform.
He points people to the social media giant’s homepage, amid speculation over his plans for a major rebrand of the company.
A search for ‘x.com’ in any search engine leads people straight to Twitter, the billionaire has confirmed, after he earlier revealed plans to scrap Twitter’s bird logo.
Mr Musk, who bought Twitter for $44billion last year, added an ‘Interim X logo goes live later today.’
Early today, Mr Musk said: ‘If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make go live worldwide tomorrow.’
The URL change comes amid a raft of transformations of the popular app since the takeover last year.
Mr Musk, 52, told Twitter users ‘we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.’
He then tweeted a picture of a potential new logo, replacing the bird that has been the face of Twitter since its foundation, to a simple ‘X.’
This would be ‘to embody the imperfections in us all that make us unique,’ Mr Musk claimed.
The world’s second richest man has already introduced a subscription service and could choose to roll Twitter into a multi-purpose app.
Swiss-army-style apps are already in existence in some countries.
In China the super app WeChat has over 1billion users. On WeChat, users can do everything from making payments to calling a taxi.
There was some backlash to the proposed changes, but Mr Musk added: ‘Frankly, I love the negative feedback on this platform. Vastly preferable to some sniffy censorship bureau!’
Changes at Twitter have been widespread, with some reporting a negative experience since the Tesla tech mogul took over the business.
Users with the subscription receive the famous blue tick and are also able to post longer messages and edit tweets.
The move was criticised by some who think reputable news sources will be harder to find, parodies easier to confuse with a real person and lead to misinformation.
Earlier this month further restrictions were temporarily placed on the site and Mr Musk confirmed all accounts would be limited in the number of tweets they could see.
The SpaceX founder said: ‘To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits.’
‘Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day. Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day. New unverified accounts to 300/day.’
He added it was a ‘temporary emergency measure’ and that Twitter was ‘getting data pillaged so much that it was degrading service for normal users.’
Since the takeover, data collected by researchers from the University of Southern California (USC), University of California (UCLA), University of California, Merced (UC Merced) and Oregon State University said hate speech had increased on the platform.
