A toddler has accidentally killed their one-year-old sibling after getting hold of an unsecured handgun and shooting them in the head.Police confirmed the tragic incident in Fallbrook, California, on Monday.
San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the scene at around 7.30am and they confirmed the three-year-old had got hold of the unsecured weapon.
The one-year-old was rushed to hospital with a head wound but was pronounced dead at 8.30am, SDSO Lieutenant Joseph Jarjura said.
The names of the children have not been released out of respect for the family and due to their age, the deputies said.
Sheriff’s Homicide investigators are working to gather more details on what led up to the shooting.
Police confirmed there are no outstanding suspects and there are no threats to the community.

The sheriff’s department said: ‘Fire department personnel arrived on scene and transported her to Palomar Hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced deceased at about 8.30am.’
