A young woman died after falling from the window of her fourth-floor hotel room in Spain, an inquest has heard.
Eden Young, 29, was a respected figure in the Manchester arts and cultural scene, and had travelled to Madrid to attend a festival for online publication and podcast Polyester, where she worked as managing editor.
Her inquest was formally opened on Tuesday at Manchester Coroner’s Court.
The inquest heard how Eden had been on a night out with her friend Gina after the festival was cancelled due to heavy rainfall.
The pair returned to their hotel at around 2am on June 8 this year, but when Gina awoke later that morning, she discovered Eden missing.
Eden was later tragically found on the floor outside after falling out of the window of their fourth-floor accommodation, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Heartfelt tributes were paid to the 29-year-old, as friends and family raised funds to bring her back to Manchester.
Paying tribute on Instagram, founder and editor-in-chief of Polyester, Ione Gamble, called her the ‘absolute biggest legend’ and ‘the most loyal person I know’.
‘Eden was the best of all of us – funny and so f***ing smart, so gorgeous, loved being an absolute legend in every way. I know everyone who listens to the pod knows this. She was also the most loyal person I know,’ Ione wrote.
‘Having her on the team was the greatest privilege in the world, I’m so grateful to Gina for introducing me to Eden, for being such an amazing best friend that she saw Eden’s talent and having the generosity to bring her on board and watch her fly as our managing editor, co-host, and gorgeous bestie. We love her so much.
‘And she loved everyone that listened to the pod so much – thank you to everyone that came up to her and recognised her and made her feel like a little celeb.’
Area coroner Zak Golombeck said Spanish authorities had confirmed her medical cause of death as a traumatic brain injury due to a fall from height.
