A man who was chopped in half by a forklift and had his entire lower body amputated has told how he is receiving emergency treatment in hospital for an infection.

Montana man Loren Schauers lost three limbs and faced a long road to recovery after being crushed by the truck in September 2019.

He made the brave decision to let doctors perform a hemicorporectomy – amputating everything below his waist to save his life.

Loren, from Great Falls in Montana, USA, has been blogging about his life as he tackles the disability with the help of his wife, Sabia Schauers-Reiche and a recent post has told how he is back in hospital with a kidney infection.

Writing on an Instagram Story on Wednesday, Loren said: ‘Drink water like no other in life. Yet I’m still needing to be put into the E.R (emergency room) for a kidney infection and my body passing a kidney stone. Why does there always have to be some catch?’

The setback for the couple comes a month after his wife shared an update where she said that he was in ‘considerable pain’.

She wrote: ‘Just our Sunday check-in with you all. Unfortunately Loren is not having a great day, it’s a day with considerable pain so no picture of him today. Not every day can be great and wonderful but being the extraordinary guy he is, he’s fighting his way through it all. We love you all!’

A video shows Loren swimming alongside wife, Sabia, with the help of an inflatable ring. While testing how much he could float, he slipped off the ring, shocking his wife.

In the video, Sabia is heard saying: ‘Don’t hit your head!’

She’s previously explained that she panics when he goes underwater, as he only has one full working arm.

As always, the couple continue to have a lot of support as they share Loren’s recovery online but they have also had to handle sick scammers posing as them on social media.

Trolls have tried fundraising but the couple have been able to get accounts shut down.

A statement from their official account this month thanked their fans as they dealt with the accounts.

They wrote: ‘As several of you have mentioned by now it looks like we’ve been a little too enthusiastic about the fake account being removed. I’m assuming many of you can still see the fake page and if you feel like it please keep reporting and commenting until you get blocked too.’
