Asari Dokubo, a former militant leader, has slammed writer Reuben Abati for writing a piece about him.
Reuben Abati had authored an article titled “Asari Dokubo, Tinubu, and Oil Theft” about the former militant leader. He had called Dokubo a “sycophant and attention seeker” who reaped the benefits of amnesty while claiming to be an activist.
Abati penned; “What intrigues me is the monstrous sycophancy and attention-seeking antics that have accompanied Asari Dokubo’s recent public appearances, as well as the need for some of his claims to be closely examined.”
Dokubo was cited as saying last week that Nigerians should hold him accountable if Bola Tinubu fails.
Asari Dokubo was referring to President Tinubu’s elimination of fuel subsidies. He has, however, just made a compelling case for making Nigerian history a required topic in our classrooms.
Some of our society’s so-called “big men,” who have the ability to smuggle themselves into front-page news, have little idea about current events. If Tinubu fails, Asari Dokubo wants to be held accountable. In his capacity as what, exactly? Who has appointed him to be the King’s Horseman?
“Has he ever heard of a man named Tokunbo Afikuyomi, who was even more exemplary in his display of loyalty?” Has he heard of all the people who said Buhari should be stoned if he fails as president? When Nigerians began hunting for someone to stone, all of Buhari’s early supporters had gone silent or were acting deaf and dumb.”
Asari Dokubo responded by labelling Reuben Abati a “rogue journalist” who lives off government handouts.
He further said that Abati should not be talking about him because he ran as a running mate for an alleged wanted drug lord in the Ogun governorship race.
Dokubo, who threatened Abati, accused him of wanting President Bola Tinubu to fail because he is envious and jealous of Nigeria’s new leader.
