They may be two of the most famous children in the world, but the Prince and Princess of Wales are doing everything they can to ensure that Prince George and Princess Charlotte have as normal an upbringing as possible.
But in recent years, Kate Middleton and Prince William seem to be helping their eldest children adjust to the idea of being in the spotlight by taking them to sporting events.
Earlier this month, Prince William took George to watch England take on Australia at London’s Lord’s cricket ground on what would have been Princess Diana’s 62nd birthday.
The nine-year-old – happily eating a pizza in the photo – was his father’s spitting image in a smart blazer and checked shirt.
Meanwhile, Princess Charlotte, eight, made a surprise appearance with her parents at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last August.
The young royal woman cringed, cheered and beamed as she watched the competitors take part in swimming, hockey and gymnastics.
The sassy schoolgirl, which was her first solo performance without her brothers, made her parents laugh at her enthusiasm — at one point, her doting father William gave a thumbs up.
Speaking to FEMAIL, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams noted how the Prince and Princess of Wales purposefully use engagements like this to get their kids used to being in public.
The expert said: ‘We know how sporty Catherine is and also how carefully she and William guard their children’s privacy as they grow up.
“It is, therefore, significant if they appear at sporting events. The interest is enormous, but appearances have of course been carefully considered.
Attending sports games, where there is so much partisan enthusiasm among the spectators, is one of the most relaxing ways to relax [George and Charlotte] in public life.’
However, the commentator highlighted how Kate and William still want their children to feel relaxed and soak up the atmosphere.
Last February, George playfully stuck his tongue out as he competed in the Six Nations with his parents.
Commenting on this engagement, Richard continued: ‘Last year George showed his cheeky side at rugby, he is still very young.
“But if they make a face or look a little silly, that also shows the human side of the royal family. That’s also important.’
In addition, the expert also emphasized that both the Prince and Princess of Wales are passionate about sports.
While Kate played hockey throughout school and college, Prince William is also an avid rugby and polo player.
Richard added: “Sport is healthy too, which is one reason why, aided by occasional performances with their children, the Prince and Princess of Wales are champions at it.”
In addition, royal expert Duncan Larcombe previously claimed that Kate was adamant that Prince George should wear a suit to matches to prepare him for royal life.
Speak against OK! magazine the pundit claimed Prince William was “excited about the idea” of his son wearing an England shirt to watch the 2021 Euros final.
However, the Princess of Wales is said to have said that his formal attire is part of the “journey” she has planned for her son.
