A 32-year-old suspected hard drug addict, Samson Sikiru, has allegedly strangled his mother. It was gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday at the deceased’s residence in Itanrin, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The suspect’s younger brother, a night guard, reportedly alerted neighbours to the development on his return from work.
A source told our correspondent that Sikiru was arrested after the neighbours discovered that he was behind the death of his mother and subsequently handed him over to the police.
The source said the suspect had been a known drug addict who had fled from home for five years before he returned recently.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omotola Odutola, said the command was aware.
Odutola said the suspect was currently a neuropsychiatric patient.
