An upstate New York woman was allegedly killed in a horror hit-and-run by a drunk co-worker soon after she refused to get into his car.
Madison Faltisco, 22, had spent Thursday evening drinking with a co-worker, Joshua Schiano, 23, but turned down a ride home because he was intoxicated, the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office said.
As she walked home along Route 57 at around 11pm, Faltisco was mown down by a passing car allegedly driven by Schiano, according to CNYCentral.
Police say Schiano then crashed his car into a road sign and a Salvation Army thrift store as Faltisco lay dying in the road.
Police arrested Schiano after his car burst into flames following the second crash, and he was initially taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
But it took officers hours to discover Faltisco’s body because Schiano never mentioned he had hit someone after his arrest, an Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
The 22-year-old’s body was only discovered at around 5am Friday, when a motorist called 911 to report finding an unconscious woman on the side of the road.
Faltisco was pronounced dead at the scene, around six hours after she was struck.
She was described as a ‘girl’s girl’ by a co-worker at restaurant Smokey Bones, where she and Schiano both worked.
Halana Seiber, Faltisco’s friend and co-worker, told CNYCentral she had turned down an offer to join the duo at the bar, but offered to give them a ride after because they were going to be drinking.
Although Faltisco declined the offer earlier in the day, Seiber said she later missed three phone calls from Faltisco before the hit-and-run.
Schiano faced charges of second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, and leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident.
