Podcaster-turned-Spotify executive Bill Simmons ripped Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after the rebellious royals parted ways with Spotify last week.
“I wish I had been involved in the ‘Meghan and Harry leave Spotify’ negotiation. ‘The F—king Grifters.’ That’s the podcast we should have launched with them,” Simmons said Friday on his own podcast.
“I have got to get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It’s one of my best stories … F—k them. The grifters.”
Harry and Meghan signed a reported $12 million podcast deal with Spotify in December 2020. The streaming platform and the couple said Thursday that they’d mutually agreed to part ways.
During the more than two-year agreement, Harry and Meghan combined to produce 12 podcast episodes and one special. The episodes of “Archetypes,” in which Meghan interviewed celebrity guests, were extremely popular when they were released in late 2022.
While the parties said the split was mutual, the Wall Street Journal reported that Spotify moved to cut ties because “The couple hasn’t met the productivity benchmarks required to receive the full payout from the deal,” citing sources familiar with the split.
