Sarah Puhto and Bella Davis posed proudly in tiny swimsuits with their natural hairlines very much on display to make their point clear.
‘It’s your personal choice to shave, wax, or grow your body hair. There’s no wrong way for your body to look,’ Sarah declared in the now-viral post.
‘You don’t owe anyone a smooth, bump-free, hairless body! Don’t let your body hair or razor bumps hold you back from wearing the bikini, from being intimate, or from making precious memories,’ she said.
Her friend Bella agreed – and admitted she used to think pubic hair was dirty and something to be ashamed of.
‘Now I know it is normal, natural, and human. You don’t have to be hairless to wear a bikini,’ she said.
The controversial post went viral – with more than 40,000 people joining in the very divisive discussion.
Many agreed with the content creators and thanked them for working to normalize body hair.
‘Can we have more posts about pubic hair like Sara’s to normalize it please please, please. My hair grows further down on my thighs and I’m so embarrassed by it and constantly having to upkeep with it and I’d love to be able to go to the beach or pool with it showing and people not be bothered,’ one woman said.
‘So wild that we have to ‘normalize’ something that is normal,’ added another.
‘Aren’t social constructions made to be broken if they do more harm than good though? Following traditions has never been a good justification for literally anything.’
‘Seeing posts about body hair like this always means so much to me since I have a lot of body hair and it’s just nice to know that I’m not alone,’ another woman said.
Not everyone shared the content creators’ views on body hair.
‘I would never wear a bikini with a full hairy bikini line like this, never, not even if paid. Besides the gender stuff, there are also cultural aspects too,’ one woman said.
Some claimed they have a problem with hair being ‘less hygienic’.
‘For me, it’s not about the appearance. but more of hygiene,’ one woman said.
‘It is dirty, and I for one don’t want pubic hairs in the water I am swimming in,’ slammed another.
