A three-year-old girl from the UK who was stabbed at a park in France is now out of surgery.
Toddler Ettie Turner is said to be ‘watching television’ while recovering in hospital following the horrific attack in Annecy Thursday morning.
French president Emmanuel Macron confirmed the news during a meeting with rescue workers in the town.
He said: ‘She is watching TV and (the attack) is just a bad memory already.’
Mr. Macron added that ‘doctors are optimistic’ but that caution was still required as she remains under care at hospital in Grenoble.
Six people, including four children, were injured in the mass-stabbing at a lakeside play park shortly before 10am local time.
All of those are now said to be on the road to recovery.
Francois Astorg, the mayor of Annecy, said he is ‘confident’ about the condition of the children who were badly hurt.
He told reporters close to the scene: ‘The children are stable right now, the adults are much better.
‘President Macron this morning (Friday, June 9) went to see the children in Grenoble and the adults later.
‘The kids have been operated on, they are stable and we are confident, I don’t want to say more than that at the moment.’
French interior minister Gerald Darmanin said the suspect, 31-year-old Abdelmasih Hanoun, was a Syrian refugee who had tried to claim asylum in France.
Hanoun first targeted two French cousins named Ennio and Alba, both two, and then attacked Ettie, a three-year-old English girl on holiday with her parents.
Peter, a 22-month-old Dutch boy, was also attacked by the suspect.Local prosecutor Line Bonnet-Mathis said yesterday afternoon that the attacker’s motives were unclear, but they did not appear to be related to terrorism.
French prime minister Elisabeth Borne said the suspect had no criminal or psychiatric record and appeared to have acted alone.
