An 11-year-old girl has been allegedly sexually assaulted at a seafront theme park ride at an amusement park.
The girl had been at Adventure Island, a popular destination for families in Southend-on-Sea, Essex.
Police rushed to the scene at around 3pm on Thursday, June 1 after receiving reports of an 11-year-old girl being sexually assaulted whilst on a ride, and a 57-year-old man was arrested at the theme park.
The suspect was described as a white man, in his late 50s, with short, grey hair and wearing a green t-shirt and sunglasses.
In a statement, Essex Police said: ‘The victim is receiving support from specialist officers.‘
Investigating officers from Southend Criminal Investigation Department have arrested a 57-year-old man from Chelmsford in connection with this investigation.
He has since been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.
‘We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this assault or have any further information to contact us.’
Adventure Island flanks the north end of Southend Pier in Southend-on-Sea and has been a theme park since 1976, when the land now forming the west side of the park was purchased by the Miller family.
