Sonia Ekweremadu, the daughter of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, has provided her account of the events leading up to and following her parents’ imprisonment.
Sonia admitted in a BBC interview that being imprisoned with her parents was shocking.
The former deputy senate president’s daughter commented on her parents’ conviction for organ trafficking by a UK court and stated she disagrees with the conviction even though she understands it.
She also acknowledged that because she will always take her parents’ side in disputes, she will be biased. She added that the matter will be abandoned.
She disclosed that she has lymphatic syndrome, which results in a tiny kidney with several holes. She denied being involved in the search for a kidney when questioned about it and added that her family essentially handled everything.
She added that anyone on her father’s side who have a history of renal disease are not eligible to donate.
Regarding the assertion that the 21-year-old Nigerian guy who was transported to the UK for the alleged “kidney donation” was her cousin, Sonia remained mum. She went on to say that she has received a lot of donations since the case became public.
Sonia added that neither she nor her parents harbor any resentment toward the 21-year-old Nigerian guy whose evidence resulted in their detention and that when she sees them in jail, her parents are typically composed.
Sonia stated that she feels terrible because everything happened as a result of her, noting that things won’t stay the same now that her parents have been found guilty.
Ike Ekweremadu, a former deputy president of the senate, was sentenced earlier today to nine years and eight months in prison for organ trafficking by a Central Criminal Court in Old Bailey, UK.
Beatrice, his wife, received four years, six months in prison sentence from the court as well.
