A man from central India‘s Madhya Pradesh underwent life-saving surgery to remove a plastic bottle from his stomach.
The 55-year-old man had an entire bottle lodged inside his abdomen – after he supposedly swallowed it whole.
Pictures following the surgery show the green Nihar Shanti Amla hair oil that was removed.
Doctor Dr Manoj Chowdhary removed the intact bottle during a life-saving operation.
The incident took place in Chhatarpur district of the state on May 16, and it is not clear how the bottle ended up in his stomach.
The man is being kept under observation following the surgery.
Meanwhile, an X-ray captured the bottle inside his abdomen before doctors were forced to intervene.
It is still unclear if the man swallowed the bottle on purpose, and further details have not been released due to patient confidentiality.
Perhaps it is down to deliberate foreign body ingestion (DFBI) – a rare psychopathological disorder that involves the swallowing of non-nutritive objects to cause self-harm.
It is most commonly associated with borderline personality disorder (BPD).
