A bus roof was completely torn off after it crashed into a railway bridge – leaving 12 people in Glasgow hospital with injuries.
The First Bus double-decker ploughed into the bridge in Glasgow, Scotland shortly after 11.30am on Sunday and its roof was sliced off.
The casualties were taken to three different hospitals, while others were treated at the scene. It is understood there are no life-threatening injuries.
Emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics, rushed to the smash in Cook Street, Tradeston, while police closed off a number of roads in the surrounding area.
As well as the passengers who were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University hospital, a number of other people were treated at the scene near the O2 venue in the city centre.
Chief inspector Elaine Tomlinson, of Police Scotland’s Greater Glasgow Division, said: ‘Around 11.35am on Sunday, 21 May, 2023, we received a report of a bus crashing into a bridge on Cook Street, Glasgow.
‘Emergency services attended and 10 people were taken to various hospitals for treatment.
‘A number of road closures remain in place, with disruption to some rail services.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: ‘A number of additional casualties have been treated at the scene but do not require to be taken to hospital.’
Network Rail Scotland temporarily closed the railway line while a safety inspection of the bridge was carried out.
