Brain Francisco Roman– a 26-year-old inmate has escaped the prison after impersonating his cellmate who was to be released later that day.
The escapist has managed to stroll out of his Cowlitz County Jail in Washington DC after his sleeping cellmate was called for discharge.
The CCTVs at the facility captured the on-the-run convict who was jailed for drug trafficking: he dressed up in his cellmate’s clothes before he made a move to break out of jail.
The scheme was hatched way before as Roman had been looking for the opportunity to escape when the time came. His cellmate was soon to be released and Roman knew that.
His face resembled a lot of his cellmate, so grabbing the opportunity he dressed up in his clothing and waited for the guard to call him up for release.
Soon after, the guard came and called his cellmate’s name to be released.
Seeing that his cellmate was already asleep, Roman went out with the guard and collected his belongings: keys, wallet, ID card, Debit card and some cash.
While his cellmate was asleep, Roman continued to sign the paperwork while forging his signature.
No prison guard noticed the fact that it was not Roman’s cellmate being released, it was Roman himself!
Soon, the 26-year-old criminal headed out for the door and was out of the prison bounds.
Back in the cell, the other inmate, Roman’s cellmate, started asking guards what went wrong with his discharge process, and why was not anyone taking action against it.
Police soon realised that the man who left the jail with his belongings was not the inmate, it was Roman!
The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page then released a justification stating that the confusion happened as both the inmates looked a lot like each other.
The statement further said Roman identified himself as the inmate when the corrections officer called for his name.
Meanwhile, a warrant of escape has been released for Roman’s arrest on the charges of forgery, escape, impersonation, and theft.
Roman was last seen wearing a blue hoodie, a black shirt and great sweatpants, other than a pair of brown slippers.
