The official invitation for the King and Queen’s coronation has been unveiled, and there’s one little girl who will be very happy – Princess Charlotte!

The coronation invitation has been printed on recycled cards and elaborately decorated with foliage in a design by heraldic artist and manuscript illuminator Andrew Jamieson, a Brother of the Art Workers’ Guild which the King is an Honorary Member.

The wording reads: “The Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III & Queen Camilla – By Command of the King the Earl Marshall is directed to invite…to be present at the Abbey Church of Westminster on the 6th day of May 2023.”

At its centre is the motif of the Green Man, an ancient figure from British folklore, symbolic of spring and rebirth, to celebrate the new reign.

In a nod to the King’s passion for the natural world, a British wildflower meadow bordering the invitation features lily of the valley, cornflowers, wild strawberries, dog roses, bluebells, and a sprig of rosemary for remembrance, together with wildlife including a bee, a butterfly, a ladybird, a wren and a robin. Flowers appear in groupings of three, signifying The King became the third monarch of his name.

And appearing amongst the flowers are three animals, taken from the King and Queen’s coats of arms: a lion, a bear and a unicorn.

Princess Charlotte is a big unicorn fan. Prince William spoke about her love of the mythical creature during an Instagram Live in 2021 when he was asked if he thought they existed.

“Well, I think if you talked to my daughter, she’d say they were real,” he laughed, before adding “Obviously, it’s a trade secret so I can’t possibly comment.”

During her family’s visit to the King Power Royal Charity Polo Day in 2019, the Princess was spotted holding a glittery unicorn purse, and then just a few months later on her very first day of primary school, a sparkly pink unicorn keychain could be seen on her backpack.

And Charlotte isn’t shy about her love for unicorns either.
