The Duke of Sussex will attend the King’s coronation but the Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, Buckingham Palace finally confirmed on Wednesday.
The Palace said in a statement: “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.
“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
The coronation, which will take place at Westminster Abbey on 6 May, also falls on Archie’s fourth birthday.
It’s likely that Prince Harry, 38, will stay at his and Meghan’s UK residence, Frogmore Cottage, which they are expected to vacate this summer.
The confirmation of Harry’s attendance follows months of speculation following the Sussexes’ Netflix documentary and the Duke’s tell-all memoir, Spare, in which he laid bare his troubled relationship with the royal family.
The Duke made a surprise trip to London last month as he attended a four-day preliminary hearing in his privacy case against the publisher of the Daily Mail, Associated Newspapers Ltd (ANL).
Harry and Meghan last made a joint visit to the UK last September where they attended the One Young World Summit in Manchester, but had to pull out of an engagement at the WellChild Awards following the death of Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
The Sussexes extended their trip in order to attend the late monarch’s state funeral at Westminster Abbey.
Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in March 2020 and have carved out a new life in California with their young children.
