Killer who wrote a letter to satan before killing cousin found after escaping from secure hospital

Mosa Jamal Abid, 26, is a ‘devil-worshipping’ killer who stabbed his cousin, Moamen Settar, to death in 2016.

He was sentenced under the Mental Health Act two years later. He escaped from secured hospital and has been tracked down and returned to the west London facility.

In October 2016, Abid visited his cousin, Settar, at his Wembley home to carry out the killing.

He had earlier written a rambling letter addressed to Satan before taking a kitchen knife and stabbing Settar repeatedly.

All the victim’s younger sisters, aged nine and 15, could hear were screams coming from their brother’s bedroom.

Abdi left the house laughing with the blade hidden behind his back.

He took off to his father’s flat to throw on a new shirt. Police found him the following morning sitting on a bench.

When police raided his Northolt home, they found the letter to Satan as well as documents on devil worship and the Illuminati.

The ‘self-acclaimed devil worshipper’ was institutionalised the following year after pleading guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

He was later placed in a secure hospital in Ealing, west London.

On Monday at around 3pm, Abdi was on escorted leave – where a patient leaves the hospital with a staffer – at a local newsagent’s when he fled.

He was seen running eastwards along Uxbridge Road, igniting a days-long manhunt as police struggled to find him as they looked through CCTV footage.

But a person spotted him in Northolt at 10am on Saturday, with the Metropolitan Police locating him shortly after.

The force said: ‘Mosa was located by officers after a call from a member of the public at around 10:00hrs in the Northolt area on Saturday, 15 April. He has been returned to hospital.

‘We would like to thank the public and media for their support in publicising this appeal and assisting in locating Mosa Abid.’

In a statement released via the Met, Abid’s family pleaded for him to come back.

‘Mosa – if you are reading this then please do the right thing and return to hospital so you can get the care and support you need,’ they said.

‘Every day that goes by and we don’t know you are safe and well is heartbreaking to us.’

Abdi had absconded once before while receiving out-patient treatment at Homerton Hospital in Hackney, east London in October 2019.
