As much as we might want to, we cannot choose the people who live next door.
But if you’re really unlucky, you might find yourself living next door to an outright thief – as one person has revealed on Reddit.
Taking to the UK Casual forum on the site, one person took a photo of a letter they found on some railings on their street, accusing a woman of stealing their plants.
The note, which is written in capital letters and red ink, was cable-tied to some railings and written in a furious response to their neighbour’s alleged behaviour.
It begins: ‘Who the hell do you think you are?’ before launching into a furious tirade at the alleged thief.
The letter first describes the culprit as being an ‘old woman’ with ‘white hair, silver frame glasses, baby blue hat, navy coat’. She also carries a black handbag and a maroon purse.
Once the culprit’s description has been established, the writer addresses her directly and says: ‘You pass every morning to get a newspaper between 8.30-8.50am-ish’.
It then warns her: ‘I have you recorded touching my car, waving at the camera (yes, it’s real!), stealing my plants.’
The letter then warns: ‘Stop it or I will call the police and give them the live footage of you.’
The Mirror reports that a photo of the letter was posted on Reddit asking what else they could do to stop this woman from stealing the plants.
They wrote on the forum: ‘If only I knew where they were going to be on any given day in a convenient 20-minute time window. Ah well, a sternly worded passive-aggressive note will have to do.’
