Four members of Co-op workers were rushed to hospital after two youths sprayed them with a mysterious chemical after confronting two youths acting suspiciously inside the store on Welland Vale Road on Sunday.
The victims were left with red skin and were blistering at the mouth after the attack at a store in Corby, Northampton, at around 2.40pm on Easter Sunday.
Fortunately, the injuries were not serious and they have since been discharged from hospital.
One of the male suspects then produced an unknown substance before spraying it at three women and one man. He then fled the scene.
Forensic tests are being carried out on the clothing to determine what the noxious substance was.
Northamptonshire Police said detectives are actively seeking the arrest of an identified male youth.
A police spokesperson said: ‘The incident happened at about 2.40pm yesterday (Sunday) when staff at the Welland Vale Road Co-op in Corby confronted the pair after they were seen behaving suspiciously in the store.
‘One of the males then produced an unknown substance and sprayed it at three female and one male member of staff before fleeing the scene.
‘Staff suffered reddening to the skin and blistering to the mouth. Paramedics and firefighters also attended the incident and all four victims were admitted to hospital for treatment before being later discharged.’
