Boy, 5, killed after being hit by bus with girl, 9, in serious condition

A five-year-old boy has died in a horror crash with a bus in Glasgow that also left a nine-year-old girl fighting for her life in hospital.

Both children were struck on Tuesday at about 5.40pm on Calder Street in the south of the city.

First Bus has confirmed one of their vehicles was involved in the collision.

Paramedics rushed to the scene to treat the little boy but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The girl was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Children where her condition has been described as serious but stable.

Sergeant Nicolas Twigg said: ‘Our thoughts are with the family of the boy who died and they have asked for privacy at what is a very difficult time for them.’

‘Police are looking into the incident in order to determine the full circumstances. The road was closed for more than six hours yesterday as an investigation was launched.

‘Anyone in the area at the time of the crash who saw what happened is urged to get in touch.

‘In addition, if you have dashcam (footage) that could help with our crash investigation, then please contact us’, Sergeant Twigg added.

A spokesperson from First said: ‘We can confirm that one of our buses was involved in the incident on Calder St, Tuesday evening.‘

‘A full investigation into the circumstances is now underway, and we are working closely with Police Scotland.’
