While he insists he was never an antisemite, Kanye West now says he “likes” Jewish people again. Over the past several months, West has essentially seen both his career and public image implode, largely due to highly controversial statements he had made about Jewish people in show business.
As he doubled down on his comments, the mogul lost lucrative partnerships with Adidas and Balenciaga, literally costing him billions of dollars. In addition to driving away many fans, West’s celebrity pals began cutting ties with him as well.
Now, it’s looking like West wants to turn over a new leaf. On Instagram, West shared an image of the poster for 21 Jump Street, the comedy movie starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.
He revealed in the caption of the post that he was particularly impressed with how Hill, a Jewish actor, made him laugh with his performance. That has West admitting that he’s been wrong with his thoughts on the Jewish race, but he also says that, as a Christian, he was never technically an antisemite.
“Watching Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street made me like Jewish people again,” Ye says in the Instagram post. “No one should take anger against one or two individuals and transform that into hatred towards millions of innocent people. No Christian can be labeled antisemite knowing Jesus is a Jew. Thank you Jonah Hill I love you.”
It remains to be seen how much this epiphany will restore West’s image in the eyes of the general public, though the post, which is the only one on Ye’s Instagram, has garnered more than three million likes in a day’s time.
Some of the comments left on the post also suggest that there are people out there willing to forgive West for his controversial behavior and become fans again like they were before.
“Everybody put your Yeezys back on,” one-person comments, while another notes that “I can actually listen to your music now.”
