Granny, 67, mauled to death by pitbull she rescued after finding it living on the street

A grandmother and an animal lover was mauled to death by a pit bull dog she took in from the street.

Anne Shields, 67, was a British woman living in Spain, named the dog Choccy after taking him into her holiday home in Spain.

Her daughter Sarah, 43, of Preston, told the Sun that ‘she wanted to put Choccy in a local shelter, but was told they had no space.‘

Police who rushed to the address shot the dog – called Choccy – so medics could reach Anne.

‘She was an animal lover and couldn’t bear the thought of throwing Choccy back on the streets,’ Sarah said.

Ms Shields, 67, decided to care for the dog until she could found him a home – but the dog suddenly turned on her and started attacking her.

Neighbours raised the alarm upon hearing Anne’s screams in Macastre, near Valencia in Spain.

Police who rushed to the address shot the dog – called Choccy – so medics could reach Anne.

But the aged woman died the next day in hospital as she suffered ‘catastrophic’ head and arm injuries.
