Russian leader, Vladimir Putin sends nuclear warships to the Arctic for first time in 30 years as major warning, Norway has warned.
The nordic intelligence report stated that the tactical nuclear weapon-armed vessels are a ‘particularly serious threat’.
This comes after two nuclear-capable ‘Bear’ bombers flew into the Bering Sea, which separates the US state of Alaska and Russia‘s far-east.
Norway announced in its intelligence report: ‘The key part of the nuclear potential is on the submarines and surface ships of the Northern Fleet.
‘The importance of nuclear weapons for Russia has increased significantly since the start of the war in Ukraine.’
The report added: ‘Tactical nuclear weapons are a particularly serious threat.
The noisy Tu-95MS ‘Bears’ flew for more than seven hours over the Bering Sea, accompanied by Su-30 fighter jets from Russia’s Eastern Military District. The Bering Sea separates the US state of Alaska and Russia’s far-east. DailyMail confirms.
Since Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russian officials and propagandists have repeatedly threatened the West with nuclear weapons.
The Northern Fleet warships regularly went to sea with nuclear weapons during the Cold War era, but the report noted this was the first time the modern Russian Federation had done so.
Tactical nuclear weapons are ‘a particularly serious threat in several operational scenarios in which NATO countries may be involved,’ the report said, adding that Russia also had submarine capabilities, anti-satellite weapons and cyber capabilities that would pose a threat in any direct conflict with Norway and its NATO allies.
Meanwhile, NATO defence ministers met in Brussels on Tuesday, where Ukraine repeated its call for Western countries to provide it with fighter jets.
