A career coach has listed what lies you should tell in a job interview if you want a better chance of scoring the role – and they span across hobbies, career goals and the future.

Anna Papalia who is a recruiter has 15 years of experience in corporate recruiting and talent acquisition and made a video on the five things worth lying or stretching the truth about.

1. Where you see yourself in five years

‘Nobody wants to hear that you see yourself in grad school, or getting married and having babies,’ Papalia said.

She urged job seekers to say that they see themselves at the company they are interviewing for, or at the very least at a similar role in the field.

2. Why you’re looking

Recruiters find candidates who hate the culture at their current company off-putting.If you are unhappy in your current position, it is possible to come off as demanding and nit-picky.

‘It’s better to say you have outgrown your position and are looking for a new challenge,’ she said.

Candidates often believe their prospective employer wants to hear that they dislike their current job and are itching to leave – but it is far from the truth

3. How you feel about your current boss and co-workers

An inevitable question in every interview, but candidates often believe their prospective employer wants to hear that they dislike their current job and are itching to leave.

But that is far from the truth. ‘I don’t care if you work for the worst, most micromanaging boss in the world,’ Papalia said.

‘You shouldn’t talk about that in an interview – especially if you’re being interviewed by someone who might be your prospective boss.’

The recruiter has spilled what lies you should tell in a job interview if you want a better chance of scoring the role – and they span across hobbies, career goals and the future

4. Your hobbies

‘You should either already have hobbies that align with your professional career in a complementary way, or have an idea of what such activities might be.

By asking you about your hobbies, recruiters try to discern how much time and effort you are truly willing to dedicate to the position.

‘Please pick hobbies that sound professional and interesting,’ the career coach said.

‘Don’t tell me that all you do outside of work is watch Netflix.’

5. Your current job description and your title

Papalia encourages job seekers to embellish the roles they perform at their current workplace.

‘Especially if you have been working above and beyond your job description and you haven’t been getting paid for it.’

Papalia’s video since garnered over 1.4million views and thousands of comments thanking the career coach for her professional insight.
