The Comptroller of the Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Ahmad Bagari, has said that 700 foreigners were arrested for possessing PVC and National Identification cards.
This was disclosed in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Nura Ibrahim.
He stated that the recovery exercise was part of NIS’s efforts to ensure that no foreigner votes during the Saturday general election.
Items including PVCs and National Identity cards, which were recovered from the 700 foreigners, had been confiscated and handed over to the national headquarters of NIS in Abuja.
While calling on the people of the state to follow guidelines for a successful free, fair, and credible election in the state, the statement stated further that the borders in the state had been closed.
The commander also ordered the closure of all borders in the state ‘from 00:00hrs of 25th February 2023 to 00:00hrs of Sunday 26th February 2023.’
