The Material Girl singer – Madonna, 64, left fans stunned with her ‘unrecognisable’ appearance at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles.
The Holiday singer took the stage to introduce Kim Petras and Sam Smith for their ‘Unholy’ performance but left many viewers doing a double take.
The 64-year-old singer kept her look simple as she wore a monochromatic fitted and tailored black jacket and white shirt, teamed with a long black skirt and daring high heels.
Madonna, who has won seven Grammys across her career, addressed the crowd as she introduced the duo.
Holding a riding crop in her right hand she asked the crowd: ‘Are you ready for a little controversy?’
Fans took to Twitter to share their confusion over her new look.
One wrote: ‘Me attempting to ignore the fact that Madonna has a whole new face. #GRAMMYs’
‘If they didn’t announce that was Madonna I’d have no idea who this person presenting at the Grammys was,’ said a another.
A third wrote: ‘I had to pause and rewind, to learn who this lady was with pictures of madonna on the screen behind her. Madonna at the grammys was UNRECOGNIZABLE!!!’
Someone else echoed: ‘Madonna’s face is SO puffed up with Botox, she hardly resembles the Madonna I fell in love with. WHY doesn’t someone who loves her TELL her this is NOT a good look!’
‘Sad what Madonna’s done to herself because she looks like she’s wearing a prosthetic mask or Halloween false face,’ penned another.
While someone else added: ‘I’m all for cosmetic surgery but @Madonna should have left her face alone after her last lift. Her hair, makeup & eyebrows make her only look worse. The mother of reinvention needs an intervention. And yes, I’ll be paying 1,300 to see her at MSG this summer. #GRAMMYs ‘.
Another added: ‘Her face looks like a puffy doll mask. It has nothing to do with her getting older. If anything, Madonna is not accepting that she is getting older and she can’t go back to how she looked as a younger woman. I feel sad for her.’
However, some fans were quick to rush to the defence of the popstar. One said: ‘Your face can be seen everywhere everyday and who knows what you used to look like. Madonna has to go out with a face people will compare to every picture and video of her we’ve all seen over the last 30 years. You have no concept of what she experiences.’
