Jacob Pratt, a 33-year-old Google employee who worked out of the search giant’s New York City offices, was found dead of an apparent suicide earlier this month, EsB has learned.
An NYPD spokesperson confirmed Pratt’s death on Monday, saying he appeared to have hanged himself in an apartment located in the trendy Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, not far from Google’s corporate offices.
Jacob Pratt was found dead inside his Chelsea apartment on February 16 and appeared to have hanged himself, an NYPD source told the New York Post.
Investigators said there were no signs of foul play. His family is now urging people to donate to a mental health fund through a GoFundMe crowdfunding page.
His death comes as Google laid off roughly 12,000 of its global workfore. It is unclear if Pratt was laid off prior to his death.
According to his LinkedIn, Pratt was a partnership leader at the company and had been for a year and a half. He started at Google as an agency manager in May 2019.
‘His interests in advertising and technology lead him to a dream job as an accounting manager at Google in Manhattan,’ his obituary said.
The family plans to host a celebration of his life at 11 a.m. local time Tuesday at Riverview Church’s REO Town Venue in Lansing, according to his obituary.
