Prince Harry opened up about his time in the military sharing the kill count along with his experience during the four tours he did in Afghanistan, meanwhile, he disclosed information about his military experience and said that it is okay to share “parts of service that haunt us”.
While speaking to People Magazine, he said that “There’s truly no right or wrong way to try and navigate these feelings, but I know from my own healing journey that silence has been the least effective remedy”
The Duke of Sussex claimed that “Expressing and detailing my experience is how I chose to deal with it, in the hopes it would help others.” During his stint in the British Army, he said that he was “the best solider I was trained to be”
Harry doesn’t know if he will be able to fully reconcile the painful elements of being at war
Furthermore, he detailed what meant for him to be on the battlefield in a foreign country and mentioned that he is unsure if he will ever “fully reconcile the painful elements of being at war”.
Prince Harry served in the British Army for ten years starting in 2007 and 2008, and then went back to combat in 2012 and 2013.
When speaking about the Taliban combatants he said that he had a head count of 25 people flying the Apache helicopter, and saw them as chess pieces that needed to be taken off the board rather than people.
Alongside he also mentioned that killing insurgents was what the job entailed and that “we take a life to save a life”.
