An expectant mother named Adriana Sylmeta, was tragically killed after being ejected from her car as her ‘drunk’ boyfriend — identified as 30-year-old Adem Nikeziq — crashed while driving 100 mph.
The 24-year-old woman who was a resident of Great Kills, suffered severe body trauma after being thrown from a white Dodge Challenger.
The woman flew from the car when it slammed into a wall and a utility pole, splitting the car into three pieces on Hylan Boulevard in Staten Island, New York, around 4:45 a.m. on Saturday (January 28), according to Hollywood Unlocked.
According to a registry at Buy Buy Baby, the expectant Albanian couple was due to have a baby girl on April 12.
A New York Police Department spokesperson has since shared that the woman’s boyfriend was charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, assault, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired by alcohol in the fatal crash.
The 30-year-old boyfriend was taken to Staten Island University North Hospital following the crash, and as police officers detected he was under the influence of alcohol.
The Albanian couple were traveling southbound on Hylan Boulevard in New Dorp at 4.44am when Nikesiq lost control. The vehicle hit a barrier wall before spinning out and crashing into a wooden utility pole, police said.
It was reported that the severity of the impact caused Sylmetaj to be ejected from the car and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Mario Basso, the owner of the H20 Auto Spa, which sits near the site of the crash, he was in disbelief of the pole that was still standing after the fatal crash.
He said, ‘I don’t understand how the [utility] pole is still standing. It was hit so hard.’
According to an online tribute posted in memory of Sylmetaj, her boyfriend was described as ‘shame to the Albanian community.’
One grieving relative also had this to say about the boyfriend, ‘He’s going away for the rest of his life and that’s still not good enough for that piece of s**t. They couldn’t save the baby. We’re never going to be ok. None of us. We’ve experienced a terrible tragedy.’
