First picture of man stabbed to death while ‘minding his own business’ in London park

Kalabe Legesse, 29, was fatally stabbed in the heart in a south London park on Friday, December 30 as he was ‘minding his own business’ in Peckham Rye Park.

The attack is thought to have been random while he was sitting in the grounds.

He suffered serious stab injuries and was discovered at 8.24pm near a cafe off Strakers Road in the park.

Despite the best efforts of London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance crews, the 29-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene half an hour later.

Police officers described the incident as a ‘brutal and senseless attack’.

A post-mortem has since found the cause of his death to be a haemorrhage and a stab wound to the heart.

Officers are now appealing for information and are searching for two suspects who were seen fleeing the park on pedal cycles in the moments after the ‘brutal and senseless’ attack.

Police are appealing for witnesses who were in the area to come forward.
