The former nanny to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has admitted she compared herself to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ au pair.
Lorren Khumalo from Zimbabwe was hired by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to care for their son Archie shortly after his birth in May 2019.
Appearing in the episode of The Breakfast Club with Zenzele Ndebelethe pediatric nurse explained how nervous she was before her first meeting with the couple, who were still living at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor at the time.
When approached by a representative of the new parents, Lorren had accompanied another family for their mid-term holiday in Germany.
Back in the UK, Lorren said she was wondering what to wear for the interview and started comparing herself to Maria Barrallo, the Norland nanny of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
As a graduate of the world’s leading childcare training institutions, the au pair to the Prince and Princess of Wales is often spotted wearing her distinctive Norland uniform – consisting of a beige crested dress, a tie, moccasins and a brown felt hat.
Lorren said: “I was like, ‘I wonder what their nannies look like, do they wear heels?
“Prince William has a nanny Norland so they have a brown uniform which for my skin color and his khaki brown appearance I knew wouldn’t even fit, it just wouldn’t work.”
