17-year-old boy ‘stabbed 18-year-old Afghan refugee to death after she allegedly made racist comments’

A teenage boy stabbed an Afghan refugee to death after the victim complained the alleged killer made racist comments about Muslim women wearing the hijab, a court heard.

Hazrat Wali, 18, a Richmond of Thames College student, was stabbed in the chest on October 12, 2021, in a busy playground near his college.

He succumbed to his injuries an hour after the attack.

The promising cricketer from Notting Hill fled the Taliban and came to the UK two years ago.

The 20cm knife entered Mr Wali’s chest below the sixth rib and cut at least 10cm into his liver. He died of massive bleeding an hour after the stabbing.

Local school members witnessed the stabbing while playing rugby on the field and staff provided first aid and recorded some of the incident.

Prosecutor Jacob Hallam told the jury that one of the students had said something to the defendant about girls wearing hijab and Hazrat thought he was racist.

‘On October 12 around 4:30 pm Hazrat was with her friend Maryam Ahmadzai. They sat together in the playground,’ Mr Hallam said.

‘Six teenagers came to them: three girls whom Mary knew, and three boys.

‘One of the boys was the accused and he was wearing a blue jacket.

‘One girl commented that it looked beautiful to see Hazrat and Maryam sitting together.

The defendant said, ‘I thought he was your king’ and he then began to swear by the Prophet.

‘Hazrat got to his feet and approached the defendant and the defendant said to him “Then come to me” and pushed Hazrat.’

‘After he stabbed Hazrat, it appeared to Maryam that the defendant tried to run away, but Hazrat grabbed the defendant’s jacket.

He was saying, “Why did you stab me?” and was screaming for help.

‘Maryam went to separate the two, and as the accused moved away, Hazrat picked up a fallen branch.

It is said that Hazrat then fell on the floor. The defendant allegedly ran over a footbridge towards Marsh Farm Road and threw his blue jacket over a fence.

Emergency services attended but were unable to save Mr Wali’s life.

In a call from prison the defendant said he was acting in self-defence, saying it was ‘just anger’ and the stabbing was ‘a way to release your anger’, the court heard.

Kishore denies commiting murder.
