Kate, the Princess of Wales is set to receive the “lion’s share” of Queen Elizabeth II’s jewellery collection, although Camilla, the Queen Consort will get the “first choice”, royal experts have claimed.
The late monarch owned an extraordinary collection of jewellery worth billions of pounds. With her passing, these will now be inherited by the women to follow on the throne and other members of the Royal Family.
Editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine Ingrid Seward said that to whom the items will go must have been “sorted and organised by the Queen some time ago”.
She added: “I imagine Her late Majesty’s personal jewellery will be given to various members of her family. The Princess of Wales as the future Queen receiving the lion’s share”.
Of course, some of the pieces will be kept by the Queen Consort.
The expert explained: “There are pieces which will remain for use of the reigning monarch’s wife – in this case, Camilla.
“She will need a large collection to support her constitutional role.”
From her side, royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight: “There is a hierarchy in all of this.
“The Queen Consort, really, gets the first choice of the Queen’s jewellery. And after that is the Princess of Wales, of course, Kate.
“The Duchess of Sussex, I’m sure, will come in for some jewellery at some point, but she is much further down the pecking order.”
The Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex paid tribute to the Queen with the jewellery they wore to the funeral.
Kate opted for the same necklace and earring combination that she wore just over a year ago for the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral.
The pieces of jewellery were also previously worn by her husband’s late mother, Diana, and are thought to have been loaned to Kate for the first time by the Queen in 2017.
