‘No, I’m a homeless person!’ PM Rishi Sunak strikes up cringe conversation with man as he serves up food at shelter ahead of Christmas

UK Prime Minister visited a homeless shelter in London run by the Passage on Friday where he was filmed awkwardly asking a homeless man if he works in business as he served up food at a shelter ahead of Christmas.

In footage while serving breakfast to people, Sunak was asked by one man called Dean: ‘Are you sorting the economy out?’.

‘That’s exactly what I’m trying to do,’ the Tory party leader responded, before asking the man if he works in business.

The man replies: ‘No, I’m homeless. I’m actually a homeless person.’

Dean then said he was interested in business, prompting Sunak to ask him what kind of business.

Dean: ‘Are you going to sort the economy out?’

Rishi; ‘That is exactly what I’m trying to do.’

Dean: ‘That’s the business.’

Rishi: ‘Do you work in business? Do you want some fruit?’

Dean: ‘No I’m homeless. I’m actually a homeless person. But I am interested in business.

Rishi: ‘What kind of business?’

Dean: ‘I like finance, it’s good for the city and em when finance and stuff is doing well we all do well in London.’

Rishi: ‘Yeah that’s absolutely right. So I used to work in finance.’

Dean: ‘Yeah I heard, ex-investment banker.’

Rishi: ‘Well I did lots of different things but yeah you’re right. But the good thing now is if you look at all the jobs in finance, the majority of them are outside London now. Is that something you would like to get into?’

Dean: ‘Yeah I wouldn’t mind. But, I don’t know, I’d like to get through Christmas first.’

Rishi: ‘What’s your plan, what are you doing this weekend?’

Dean: ‘No idea. I’m hoping that the St Mungo’s can help me get into some temporary accommodation so I’m not on the street.’

Yesterday, Sunak posted a photo of his visit on Twitter, along with the words: ‘For too many people, the opportunity to celebrate Christmas in a warm and safe environment is beyond reach.

‘Words are not enough. We are investing £2 billion to give some of the most vulnerable people a roof over their heads, with targeted support to rebuild their lives.’

Sunak’s comments would nevertheless follow a series of blunders this year, with the ex-Chancellor pictured in July in £500 brown Prada suede loafers in a visit to Teesside to argue that inflation must be restrained.
