Russian soldier, now a defector who fought with a unit accused of war crimes in Ukraine has revealed criminal acts committed by Vladimir Putin’s forces – the rape, looting and horrors.
The alleged defector was a civilian before being handed a gun and sent to Ukraine, said: ‘There is a madman who kills a man. Such lunatics appeared there.’
He confesses his unit brutally raped Ukrainian women and left mass graves in their wake, after being giving a ‘direct order’ to kill any civilians suspected of sharing information via mobile phone.
Chybrin, who was willing to testify against his former brothers in arms said he swore to the first commander he saw, telling him he didn’t want to fight in the war.
But he was told that his family would suffer if he disobeyed the order after the commander attacked him and threw him into a military vehicle, closing the door so he could not escape. ‘This is how I arrived in Ukraine,’ he said.
He savour the moment when Rambo-esque Russian soldiers who went to Ukraine boasting came back broken men.
'They saw the war, saw the defeat, saw them [fellow] Warriors were being killed, saw dead bodies,’ he recounted. ‘They understood—but could not escape.’
He informed how Russian military lost their discipline in the face of ‘ruins of war’s.
'Commanders were aware of the rape and looting, but did nothing to stop the soldiers.‘They reacted like this: 'Whatever. It happened. So what?' In fact, there was no response,’ he said. ‘Discipline goes [down the drain]. There is no discipline. 'Mass graves and bodies of murdered civilians lie in the streets by Ukrainian forces after Chybrin’s unit retreats from areas around Kiev.
Chybrin who hold on to the claims that he took no part in the massacre defected from the Russian military in September and fled to Europe after witnessing the horrors.
He fought in the war for months, before his opportunity to escape came when he was sent to the Kharkiv region and found himself in the forest of Izim.
It took his opportunity when when Putin announced a partial mobilization of Russian civilians, pushing thousands to fight in Ukraine.
Chibrin knew he would soon be sent back to the front, so he gabbed some possessions, and sets out for St. Petersburg in his pains.
He fled at a time when Russia was looking for citizens fleeing its borders, Chybrin slipped through the cracks and fled the country.
From there, he was able to get help to get to Kazakhstan with the help of Russian human rights activist Vladimir Osechkin, before making his way to an undisclosed EU country where he is now requesting asylum.
'The soldiers would take stolen cars from Ukraine to Belarus, where they would sell them, he said. 'Russian soldiers also looted unarmed civilians, he said, stealing computers, jewelry and other valuables.'There was a mentality of not getting caught. If you steal something and no one sees you, commanders often let you off the hook,' he explained.
Chibrin was an office worker and mowed lawns for a living before signing up for the war.
