Queen Camilla has now taken on a new role, previously held by disgraced Prince Andrew. Camilla’s new role is the position of colonel of the Grenadier Guards. Andrew inherited the role from his late father, the Duke of Edinburgh in 2017, who served the role for 42 years.
The role shuffle will also see Kate, the Princess of Wales, promoted to her first Army role.
She will take over the role of colonel of the Irish Guards from her husband, Prince William.
Instead, William will become colonel of the Welsh Guards.
The changes, which have been announced by Buckingham Palace, have been made ahead of the next Trooping the Colour.
The Trooping the Colour has marked the official birthday of the British Sovereign for more than 250 years.
The King’s actual birthday falls on November 14. The King’s Birthday Parade, which will be Charles’ first, will take place on June 17.
It will see the Household Division on Horse Guards Parade, with the King attending and taking the salute.
The responsibility for delivering state ceremonial and public duties fall on the seven regiments of the senior military unit.
Traditionally, the monarch holds the appointment of colonel-in-chief of the regiments.
Along with this, each one typically also has a colonel. This is normally either a senior officer or a member of the Royal Family.
