Lionel Messi has made a stunning U-turn on his earlier retirement plans.

Earlier this month as World Cup is heating up, he reported in one of his interviews: ‘This would be my last [World Cup]’.

Emmamuelsblog recalled that the Argentinian captain seemingly walked away from the national team setup after Chile beat Argentina in the 2016 Copa America final.

In the euphoria of World Cup celebration, he has seen beyond his words and wouldn’t call an ‘end’ to the Argentina national team yet.

Now, he wants to continue making memories with the national side. No way he is hanging up his boots now.

The 35-year-old was widely expected to confirm that Sunday’s showpiece would be the last time he would represent his country on the global stage.

After inspiring their first victory since 1986, however, Messi confirmed it was his intention to play on and be present in four years’ time when America, Canada and Mexico will play host.

TyC Sports asked if he was going to retire from international football, Messi replied: ‘No, I’m not going to retire from the national team. I want to keep playing as World Cup champions with Argentina shirt.’
