Update on the Aisha and Mohammed case reveals that the First Lady of Nigeria and wife to President Muhammed Buhari of Nigeria, has withdrawn the case against the student who made critic comments on Twitter.
The First Lady, Aisha Buhari withdrew the case against student Aminu Mohammed after being under pressure from activists, Amnesty International, National Association of Nigerian students and the general Nigerian public.
If we can recall, the case against the student resulted after he made insulting and slandering comments about Aisha Buhari, saying she ate the money meant for poor people.
Reports have revealed that the case was withdrawn because the First Lady, being the mother of the nation decided to do so because of the intervention of fellow Nigerians.
The judge of FCT High Court, Justice Yusuf Halilu has commended the First lady for her withdrawal of the case, and has called on parents and guardians to always monitor the activities of their children online and offline to prevent such occurrence again.
According to reports from the police, Aminu Mohammed was arrested on the 18th of November 2022, after the First Lady instructed police detectives to track him down.
He was then held in an unknown location, and was denied visits from any family or friends or even a lawyer. Because of this, his arrest and rumours of torture and ill treatment caused an outcry and condemnation from Nigerians and from Amnesty International Nigeria.
Fortunately, all charges against the 500 level student of Federal University, Dutse has been dropped, and he will likely be released in time for his final exams slated to begin on the 5th of December 2022.
