Police Arrests Soldier For Stabbing Man To Death

ABIA –A private soldier, Saeed Sabo, is in police custody for stabbing a 34-year-old man to death in Umuahia.

Mr. Saeed Sabo of the 82 division of Nigerian Army, Enugu stabbed Mr. Offor Uchenna, who was attached to a Chinese construction company in Umuahia on his chest.

It was reported that an altercation ensued between the duo on Saturday around Umuahia railway station following the soldier’s inability to pay for goods he previously bought before buying a new one.

An eye witness recalled: “The soldier slapped the man who then grabbed the soldier by the uniform”, adding that the soldier now stabbed him with his bayonet.

The man was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia for treatment where he was pronounced dead.

The remains of Mr. Uchenna have been deposited at the mortuary, while the suspect has been handed over to the Police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

When contacted, the Police PRO in charge of Abia State command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed the incident, saying that investigation has commenced.

No statement from the Army Command at Ohafia yet.
