Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of the Ukrainian capital has announced that Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been given the title of an honorary citizen of Kyiv.
“The Kyiv City Council approved the decision to confer the title of Honorary Citizen of Kyiv on Boris Johnson, a great friend of Ukraine. Boris repeatedly visited the Ukrainian capital – both in peace and in the most dramatic time of our struggle against the Russian aggressor.
“I am certain Johnson will continue to do everything possible to ensure that the UK and world leaders provide the necessary assistance to Ukraine,” Klitschko wrote on his Telegram channel.
On August 24, during his visit to Kyiv, Johnson received Ukraine’s highest honour for a foreign citizen – the Order of Freedom.
Johnson was invited to Kyiv to be awarded the honorable award by Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Mr Klitschko, whose brother Wladimir Klitschko was also a champion boxer, took to instant message service Telegram to share the news.
He said: “The Kyiv City Council approved the decision to confer the title of Honorary Citizen of Kyiv on Boris Johnson, a great friend of Ukraine.
“Boris repeatedly visited the Ukrainian capital – both in peace and in the most dramatic time of our struggle against the Russian aggressor.
Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov said the City Council observed the immense contribution of Britain to help Kyiv fight the war against Russia. Taking to Telegram, Major Trukhanov informed that he signed the decree on July 1 making Johnson an honorary citizen of the Odesa City.
